Closing Time
Posted by Zel-kun on June 3rd, 2009 filed in Flash FictionMel looked at his phone in the dim light of the parking lot. The two streetlamps both had dying bulbs that painted the area a dark orange. He leaned against the somewhat weathered Harley and sighed.
“Tough crowd,” a voice said from behind him, he turned to see a pretty woman perhaps in her late twenties with long, dark hair.
He shrugged, “Yeah, sometimes is. Fuck ‘em. Not my fault that sissy rock is what’s popular these days.”
“Seems pretty rough, though. Go up in front of everyone just to get heckled,” the woman shook her head, “Sounds pretty stupid if you ask me.”
Mel chuckled and started his bike, the sound of the engine filling the silence of the lot, “There’s two ways you can go through life. One is to do what everyone wants and maybe be liked. The other is to do what you want and maybe be hated. And I’ve already tried it one way, baby.” Mel then throttled the bike, and sped out of the lot.
