Rock Band
Posted by Zel-kun on March 25th, 2009 filed in GamingSo we all just want to be big rock stars, live in empty houses driving sixteen cars…
I finally broke down and bought Rock Band. I went through a good two week period where I pondered between Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Amazingly, few people could give me any sort of insight as to the differences. I couldn’t even get a straight answer as to if the instruments would work with both games.
I know now that the guitars and microphone will, in fact, work with either game. I haven’t tested the drums out with the Guitar Hero World Tour I picked up, but I’m thinking they’ll work. Speak up if you know otherwise.
The game has been an absolute blast since I’ve gotten it. We’ve had a few Rock Band parties, and created a few different bands for the occasion. It’s fun to see the rockers you created on the screen up on stage doing a pretty good job of looking like they’re actually playing the current song, which is impressive considering the amount of songs in the game.
I know there’s a lot of people out there who think the Guitar Hero/Rock Band games are lame, but that just insn’t the case. It’s not about trying to actually be a rock star, or attempting to play a video game as an excuse for not learning an instrument. It’s about rocking out to your favorite songs.
Who hasn’t tapped their foot, nodded their heads, sang along, or played air guitar while their favorite song was on? It’s about letting the music flow through you and move you, and there’s no better way to do that than to actually become part of the song. And when you’re doing it with a group of good friends, it only gets better.
I’ve even grown to respect songs I’ve only kinda liked in the past. Being made to play every guitar riff actually makes me pay attention to the music, whereas when listening in the car, I may tend to drift away.
It’s not the cheapest thing inm the world to buy. When all was said and done, I spent about $200 on the game and the full set. But if you have the means, it’s a lot of fun.
Zel-kun out.
