Viva Las Vegas
Posted by Zel-kun on February 19th, 2008 filed in Random BitsWell, I never thought I’d be one of those people, but it ended up being my idea.
The planning of the wedding was becoming increasingly stressful for Zai. It was to the point that the mere mention of the wedding would send her spiraling into frustration and depression.
She had a giant family, and despite our wishes, every single one was insisting on coming to the wedding.
So I suggested we elope. We go to Vegas and have a wedding there, to get away from everything and just enjoy ourselves. She liked this idea and smiled for the first time ever while thinking about the wedding. We’d decided we could have a small and tasteful ceremony there, stay in a nice hotel for a few days, and maybe catch a show or two.
It sounds like it’s going to be very memorable.
Zel-kun out.

Good luck on your Vegas getaway! Sounds ilke fun!
If you have a large family and don’t want to disappoint anyone, that sounds like an excellent idea. Then you can have smaller gatherings later with anyone who wishes to have a congradulations celebration.
We had a big wedding, and, honestly, much fun as it was, I really didn’t get to spend much time with anyone there beyond saying “thank you” for various well-wishings.
What kind of ceremony you’ll be happy with seems to depend on who your doing the ceremony for – is it for you or for everyone else? If it’s for you, by all means, an elopement is excellent.

Yeah, I was sitting with Zai planning the reception and I said, “I don’t really want to do this.”
She replied, “Neither do I.”
Something clicked then. I mean, we’re the people getting married, shouldn’t WE be doing it the way we want?

Well, shoot. Let us know when, huh? I had a vague hope/ambition of making it to Illinois, but we ought to be able to make Vegas at least now that we have jobs (sorry Jen!)

Zel! You’re gonna be in my ‘hood, bro! We have to get together. We — Miss L and I — are arranging it through Julie. If you want a couple more witnesses at your wedding, we’re there, man.
