Chances are good there are other screw-ups in your IT department and this person works in an area that has suffered at their hands, and there is now a general level of distaste for the IT workers. In fact, this happens a lot at bigger companies for much the same reason it happens at high schools -- the smart people get picked on out of jealousy and dependence (they NEED you to make the magic work!) So it's likely they were bitching about IT as an entity and not you specifically. Unless you’ve botched other installs of various things at the office, I wouldn’t take it personally.
