More and more, my late night television viewing is being taken over by the Discovery Channel. I used to watch Adult Swim, but its being taken over by more and more suck. I can blame two men for this: Tim and Eric.
Who are these men, you may ask. If you watch Adult Swim, you’d know them as the creators and stars of ‘Tom Goes To The Mayor’, a show that is entertaining on about two occasions in all the episodes produced. The first occasion was Jack Black singing about bear traps, which was funny as hell.
I don’t remember the second occasion, but I’ll give the show the benefit of a doubt.
Anyhow, the style of Tim and Eric is this half live action, quasi animation style based entirely on weirdness. Now, I like weirdness, but there needs to be humor. Weirdness alone isn’t funny or entertaining, it needs a backbone.
Example: Aqua Teen Hunger Force
This show is really weird. Its about a milkshake, a wad of meat, and a talking box of fries, and how they annoy their neighbor. This alone is weird, but not inherently funny. This is why writers make a plot, then create witty and funny things to say.
“Are those pirahnas dead?”
“No, they’re just… tired from all the sleeping pills Shake ate before he jumped in.”
See, funny and weird, not funny BECAUSE its weird.
Now….
Tim and Eric:
I actually watched a segment of them making funny faces at each other and making strange noises for about five minutes. That’s it, that was the bit. There was no writing or comedy, it was like watching two retarded children fighting over a toy that isn’t there.
And if this wasn’t bad enough, they created another show that’s basically the same thing. And if THAT’S not bad enough, there’s more shows that are now the same thing, doubtlessly inspired by these two, now destroying the entire lineup with suck. And if that’s not bad enough, they also have a number of bumps in between shows. So now can you not only be bothered by their shows, they even annoy you during commercials.
Nice.
I used to really enjoy adult swim, before these two dipsticks came along. Its my hope that Adult Swim will realize how much suck they’re producing and mend their ways.
I think there’s a better chance of pigs flying.

Once upon a time, Adult Swim was full of such coolness, I would stay up way past my bedtime to watch! Now I just don’t care anymore. I haven’t tuned in for at least 6 months. Maybe longer. I forget.

I’ve given up on Adult Swim. I’m absolutely dead tired of Family Guy, and since that gets their top ratings, there’s no chance they’ll play less of it. Futurama I like a lot obviously, but I’ve seen every episode about twenty times apiece at this point. I love ATHF (and I’ll be seeing the movie, SCREW YOU BOSTON!) but likewise, seen ‘em all a dozen times.
Now we get to the giant list of crap.
Squidbillies, Stroker and Hoop, Assy McGee, Tim and Eric Show, Tom Goes, Saul of the Mole Men, Baby Blues (WTF?), Smoking Gun, 12 Oz. Mouse..
Why do they do this to us?
Anyhow, nuts to all that. I’m now rating movies and shows on Netflix and start taking up some suggestions. They have a fairly large anime selection.

Baby Blues? See, this is how you know I haven’t watched Adult Swim in awhile.
Squidbillies: Complete and utter crap.
10 Oz. Mouse: Its like they got together and said, “Hey, think we can make a show somehow WORSE than Squidbillies?”
Saul of the Mole Men: Its like… a children’s show, but even worse.
Stroker and Hoop: Mildly amusing, but it gets repetitive after about four minutes.
Assy McGee: It would be somewhat redeemable (I’ve actually seen some pretty funny gags), if the show didn’t star an ASS. Seriously, its like a flash animation on some website that went on far too long.

Baby Blues was a while ago.. I remember it coming on and wondering what on earth possessed them to play it. It was about a year ago, the last time I saw it.. right around when The Oblongs and Home Movies were seeing airtime during the late nights.

Yes adult swim has become complete bullshit. I have two theory’s though. Adult Swim used to be very very small and discrete and still cartoonnetwork owns them so maybe the suck shows were introduced to lower the ratings bcause cartoonnetwork didn’t want their 2nd class entertainment to surpass their main stream of cartoon’s. Now I just think the ratings are what they are cause people get high and drunk and turn adultswim on and let the shit sit there and laugh at the retarded animation. The shows aren’t even colored cause the high fills in the colors. damn im not speaking too much sense right now but im supposed to be sleeping so can’t really make much sense without typing noisily on the keyboard to try to get my reasoning. - C

Obviously management has given these two idiots free reign but it’s a matter of time before a Suit happens to be awake and actually watch the result of what is airing.
Management hasn’t figured out that the ratings are due to Family Guy and Futurama viewers that walked away from the TV when the shows were done.

Honestly, I almost never watch adult swim anymore. Even Discovery has fallen by the wayside with it’s constant ‘Blue Planet’ re-runs and people climbing Everest.
Tim & Eric are as retarded as ever, I think they have like… almost the entire lineup now. So sad.

Actually these guys both have connections to big names in the stand up/comedy circles. AS probably gives them whatever they want in the hopes that when Bob Odekirk or David Cross want to do something like Mr. Show again that they will get it through the favor chain. Adult swim seems to think that ATHF Brak show etc.. means that ANYTHING stupid and silly will make them money (they miss the key ingredient of either talent or luck in the mix) so they just shotgun us with utter crap and hope that something will sell DVD’s after the fact. I actually thought squidbillies was mildly funny (kill whitey day actually had me gasping for air a few times)
But as for Tim and Eric…
I could run naked into a funeral parlor and in front of the mourning family, rip open the coffin and plunge a stake into chest of the recently deceased, all the while screaming “Kill the vampire, kill the vampire!” and I would have committed less of a social faux pas than leaving the TV on during an episode of anything that Tim and/or Eric are even remotely associated with.

I could not agree more on this subject. After seeing this travesty of focus group logic for the third time, I decided to have a look around the internet to find out if I was alone in my thinking that the producers of “Tim & Eric Awesome Show Great Job” were complete retards. Thanks to several well articulated postings, I feel somewhat vindicated. I consider myself to be a forgiving and well rounded critic of the upper echelon of television comedy. I believe that shows like Family Guy, Robot Chicken, A.T.H.F. and Futuramma are some of the most imaginative and entertaining shows available these days. This recent trend of campy crap such as: “Saul of the Mole Men” and afore mentioned “Tim & Eric….. Show” IS JUST NOT FUNNY AT ALL!!! In fact… I am completely confident that at least 1 out of any 10 people you meet on the street would be capable of creating a more entertaining show, with no production experience at all. I personally found solace in fantasizing about going to the T&E studio during taping and personally gunning down everyone responsible. When in court, facing multiple murder charges, I would simply tell the judge that: ”The people of America refuse to allow TV to suck that much.”

I work a night shift in a control room setting and usually put the TV on Adult Swim at the first chance. I leave the TV on this channel most of the night, even if I am not watching it, and coworkers find the it amusing when they have the time to sit down for a while. However I actually change the channel when 12oz Mouse, Tim & Eric, and Xavier come on, many times never switching back the rest of the night. What is supposed to funny about “12oz Mouse”? “Tim & Eric” is just plain retarded and embarrassing! Was Xavier created on little Johnny’s desktop while playing SIMS that was purchased at BIG LOTS?
I have to admit that actually liked “Stroker and Hoop”. That was one of the funnier shows. Especially the one where Ron Howard has a mind control devise.
I cannot understand how they could cancel S&H and keep and expand the T&E franchise. I suppose that Adult Swims next act will be to cancel “Venture Brothers” so as to have more money and airtime for Tim & Eric.

I was a huge fan of Adult Swim, and I am also a huge fan of Seth Green. His work is fantastic, and probably the only real reason to watch AS anymore. The thing that drives me crazy is that someone somewhere finds this crap funny. High, stoned, Drunk, Dying, This crap is not funny. Mitch Hedberg, Eddie Izzard, Denis Leary, Jim Gaffigan, These men are all funny. In reference to Odenkirk and the rest of the dudes involved with Mr. Show, that show was about as funny as G Dub becoming president for a second term. I have written funnier bits and programs while on the radio in college, as a freshman I might add. AS needs to wake the F#*$ up and put on more stuff like Metalocalypse, Oblongs, Robot Chicken, ATHF…etc…hell Ill even take Greg The Bunny over anything made by Tim and Eric.
