As I do most evenings, last night I was watching Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network. Imagine my surprise when after Aqua Teen Hunger Force, came Saved By The Bell.
Surely my eyes were deceiving me? Surely this wasn’t the 1980’s sitcom about high school?
It was. I was watching an old sitcom on Adult Swim.
Now, I was only half-surprised, being as I’ve seen the previews on Adult Swim saying ‘Saved By The Bell is coming!’ I figured they were just doing some crazy gimmick or it would be re-dubbed so it’d be something crazy. No, it was an episode of Saved By The Bell, just like I didn’t watch when I was little.
The logic of this baffles me, being as the show wasn’t utterly horrible, surely not bad enough to have camp value. I watched an episode, there were a couple things that made me chuckle, but by and large it was boring. I really don’t know why this became a part of Adult Swim, and I’m hoping this isn’t the first step in a direction I’m going to hate. That’s what I want… a network that plays 1980’s sitcoms all night. I mean… ANOTHER network.
The bumps for it are hilarious, though, oddly-colored slow motion bits of show, makes it look like the cast crawled out of the abyss and will not be satisfied until they have devoured all of our souls.
In other news, nothing is really happening on the job front. Things at Getronics look somewhat promising, and TekSystems will offer me a bit of work, so that’s good. I’ve lived this lifestyle before, with my income through part-time work and unemployment, and there are worse ways to live.
Well, that’s all for now.
Zel-kun out.

Rumor on the wire is that Cartoon Network wants to be more like Nick and Disney channels, with the live action / animation mix. I don’t see why they have to screw with Adult Swim though. Maybe some executive forced them to show a live action show and they purposely picked the worst one to make it fail horribly?
This is my last grasp at sanity. If it gets much worse, I’m just doing to start pirating all my favorite shows and put them on random replay to simulate Adult Swim.

I suppose that makes sense, what with the feature movies they’ve been plaiyng lately. To this, I make only one agrument…
‘Cartoon Network’
I go there for cartoons, not live action. And Adult swim was terrific (with the exclusion of the anime, they pick the worst stuff in Japan to show, for some reason), and in my opinion, did not need to be changed.
I’m hoping that’s what Adult Swim did, to spite the head honchos.

More info. On TV last night, at times I saw the [as] logo read:
[crappy 1980's live action tv show network]

Isn’t this one of the signs of the impending apocalypse? I mean, yeah, I like Saved by the Bell, but not on CN. Especially not on AS! I mean, AS was started primarily for anime that kids shouldn’t watch, and Futurama…which sometimes I think kids shouldn’t watch that either. Like the Simpsons. God I hate the Simpsons! But, that’s another rant for another time.
Anyway, maybe if enough viewers petition CN or better yet flame their asses, theyll leave CN for CARTOONS. The occassional live action movie like Jumanji and some choice others could be understandable, I suppose, but not live action shows.
What’s up with them showing live actions movies anyway? Have you ever caught any of those? Sure, they’re typically kids movies, but that doesn’t change the fact that they are live action. What ever happened to replacing live action with claymation. I’d consider that fair play for CN. It’s animation…sort of. I’m talking like Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride. The *good* kinds of claymation!
Okay, this is supposed to be Jon’s blog, so I’ll stop ranting now. Good luck on the continued job hunt Jon-kun! ^.^

I’m sure he won’t mind if you leave long rants heheh.. but yeah, I think CN is underperforming in the ratings. Personally, I don’t care two dicks what the hell they do during CN’s kiddie daytime, but if AS starts going live action they’ll lose at least my viewership. Tom Goes to the Mayor is pushing it as it is — it’s not even funny. The only time it ever IS funny is when someone else saves the day, like Jack Black guest starring (she be my master.)
Whatever this Saul of the Mole People is, I’m not interested. While they’re at it, they can ditch Robot Chicken.

Ehwa? Saved By the Bell?
Would it help if I said ‘ha, ha’?

Robot Chicken has its moments… but yeah, by and large its not that funny. Although the first commercial for it before the show aired was immensely entertaining.
And by and large, the programming outside of AS sucks, though I do enjoy the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy and Kids Next Door. I’m usually watching Discovery during the day anyhow, so they could replace the whole lineup with crappy movies, I really don’t care.
As it is, I only watch a small portion of AS, I turn it off when the anime comes on. While a couple are decent, I just don’t catch consecutive episodes enough to keep me interested in the plot.
And no, I don’t mind long rants at all, though Corpse Bride and Jumanji can hardly be considered ‘good’ movies.

I love Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends! Speaking of Cartoon Network, I mean.

See, I’m the other way around. I’ve seen just about every futurama and family guy episode there is and while I’ll generally watch a futurama repeat, the family guy repeats tend to be airbrained and annoying. I’m really starting to get tired of their “crack a weird comment, flash back to weirder scene” format.. and I thought it was pretty funny when South Park ripped them for it. American Dad is no better.
It’s when the anime comes on that I realize how much I’m thirsting for something with more thought to it.. sadly though, it seems like I never catch anything NEW on AS late nights.. repeats, repeats, repeats. I think I might truly have to start grabbing eps I haven’t seen from somewhere instead.

Yeah, Family Guy is only funny the first time you watch it, sadly.
And yet… Futurama gets funnier every time I watch it.
And yes, the anime they show is very blah.
